Overview
A Clinical Vascular Scientist is sought to join Ashford and St Peters Hospital Foundation Trust. You will perform all vascular ultrasound modalities including arterial duplex, venous reflux duplex, carotid duplex, EVAR, AAA surveillance and graft surveillance.
We aim to provide a high-quality scanning and reporting service in all aspects of vascular ultrasound and to contribute to service delivery, improvement, audit and research for the benefit of patients.
Responsibilities
* Provide a high standard of ultrasound practice and an evidence-based service geared towards patient care, in accordance with the CSVS Code of Professional Conduct, CSVS Guidelines and Trust policies.
* Demonstrate a high standard of ultrasound skills and interpret diagnostic ultrasound information.
* Issue independent reports and discuss with the Manager/Lead Practitioner for further imaging when appropriate to ensure effective patient management.
* Exercise analytical and judgmental skills when communicating highly complex information to patients, colleagues and medical staff.
* Prepare patients for diagnostic ultrasound examinations, ensuring correct patient identification, confidentiality and data protection.
* Prepare environment and equipment for diagnostic ultrasound examinations.
* Develop and maintain effective communication with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective patient management.
* Work with future collaboratives to meet local and national waiting time initiatives.
* Ensure all examinations and images are fully documented as per agreed policy.
* Maintain physical, mental and emotional effort to meet job demands, including delivering sensitive information when required.
* Use high specification ultrasound equipment and ensure it is in good working order.
Management Responsibilities
* Participate in standard setting and clinical audit within the ultrasound department.
* Work within and contribute to evidence-based protocols and guidelines.
* Manage time and prioritize own workload; in the absence of the manager, prioritise departmental workload.
* Participate in evaluation and selection of ultrasound equipment.
Education
* Maintain a CPD folder and continue to develop knowledge and practice, including communication and counselling skills.
* Maintain continued competency in emergency resuscitation, manual handling techniques and fire regulations; attend required training.
* Participate in performance reviews and personal development with the departmental manager.
* Develop and present lectures in line with training and CPD requirements.
* Be actively involved in training students (sonographers, radiographers, registrars and SHO's) both clinically and theoretically.
* Participate in research and evidence-based care to ensure high-quality patient care.
* Provide external assessor duties for CSVS practical examinations.
Clinical Governance
* Adhere to Trust Health and Safety policies and relevant laws.
* Contribute to departmental protocols to ensure high levels of clinical governance.
* Adhere to quality and risk management initiatives to ensure staff wellbeing.
* Support staff to develop competencies for safe and effective patient care and professional development.
* Promote, monitor and maintain workplace safety and security through audit and risk management.
* Be prepared to handle untoward incidents and patient or relative complaints.
