Offer description

This NIHR academic clinical lecturer position is an exciting opportunity to combine clinical training with a programme of postdoctoral research, providing 50% clinical and 50% academic time. The Postgraduate Dean has confirmed that this post has the required educational and staffing approval and will come with an Academic National Training Number [NTN(A)]. The individual will join the School of Medicine and Population Health and conduct Research in Children and Young People at The University of Sheffield. The Medical School combines strong basic and clinical science groups to create a major focus on translational research. The candidate’s research should be aligned with the School’s Research Themes.

For more information on the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Health, please see http://www.shef.ac.uk/faculty/medicine-dentistry-health/

You will develop your own research program supervised and supported by Clinical Academics, Academics (basic scientist) or Consultants with an honorary academic contract. You will conduct clinical training in the South Yorkshire Deanery and provide middle grade clinical on-call duties at Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals. The post is ideally suited to individuals wishing to build an academic career, and in particular those who have already undertaken research and who now wish to continue undertaking research whilst pursuing further training.

Doctors with specialist/ty experience that meet the entry criteria into specialty training may apply to this scheme; however, to take up this academic CL post you must demonstrate clinical competence for the award of a national training number (NTN). If a current NTN is not held, candidates will need to clinically benchmark before taking up the post. Clinical benchmarking can be achieved through application for specialty training within the national recruitment window where the minimal appointable score must be achieved. Trainees are responsible for ensuring that their clinical application is submitted within the appropriate recruitment round to ensure that they are benchmarked before the date that the post needs to commence.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and University.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles from across the world, whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
