Overview
Job Summary – As a Porter, you'll be expected to carry out a variety of tasks throughout your shift. You'll often be on the move, walking long distances while transporting patients, equipment, furniture, waste, laundry, notes, specimens, and more across our Trust sites. You will provide a thorough portering service for the Facilities Operations department, ensuring everything is moved safely and that equipment is cleaned and checked for faults. You will work closely with patients, visitors, and colleagues in a polite and courteous manner, and you may be involved in the onsite courier service, helping with deliveries around the Trust sites.
Job responsibilities
* Provide a comprehensive porter service for the Facilities department and ensure the safe movement of patients, equipment, furniture, waste, laundry, notes, specimens, and other items around Trust sites.
* Ensure equipment is cleaned and regularly checked for faults.
* Maintain a polite and courteous manner when interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
* Participate in the Trust’s courier service, including deliveries around the Trust sites and community sites.
* Move and handle mail, patient notes, waste, laundry, medical gas cylinders and laboratory specimens using appropriate handling equipment.
* Deliver hospital supply cages to wards and departments and collect/return empty cages.
* Maintain daily vehicle sheets and ensure cleanliness of vehicles; report faults to the supervisor.
* Ensure departmental equipment (trolleys, wheelchairs, bed movers, etc.) is cleaned regularly and faults are reported promptly.
* Provide portering support to residential areas for delivery and sorting of mail, linen, rubbish, dirty laundry, and movement of furniture, stores and equipment as required.

* To collect and deliver items such as mail, patient notes, waste, laundry, medical gas cylinders and laboratory specimens using appropriate handling equipment.
* Deliver and collect hospital supply cages to wards and departments as required.
* To maintain daily vehicle sheets and keep vehicles clean; report faults to the supervisor.
* To ensure equipment (trolleys, wheelchairs, bed movers, etc.) are cleaned regularly and faults are reported promptly.
* To disinfect wheelchairs and trolleys between patients as necessary.
* To provide portering service for delivery and sorting of mail, linen, rubbish, dirty laundry, movement of furniture, stores and equipment within residential areas.
Qualifications
Essential
* Basic numeracy and literacy skills
* Willingness to undertake training relevant to the post
* Full Driving License
