We partner with suppliers to ensure ethically sourced palm oil enters our kitchens. Chester Zoo operates within a 128 acre site of stunning gardens and funds conservation work through a not-for-profit model. Your role will contribute to delivering this mission.
The Role
We have multiple roles available across our Food & Beverage outlets, including venues such as The Oakfield (pub), The Square (events venue) and Junes Food Court with a burger counter, fish & chip counter, and a Pizza section with a pizza oven. There are other outlets around site you may be required to support. You will support the Sous Chef and Head Chef in driving provision of fresh, quality ingredients while upholding our sustainable values.
You will
* Provide support in the day-to-day running of the kitchen. Deputise for the Sous Chef in their absence and act as the first point of contact for service recovery
* Produce food for customers of our restaurants and events to the highest standards to maximise profit and deliver world-class experiences
* Train and mentor Chef de Parties, Line Chefs and Seasonal team members to ensure effective and efficient work practice
* Work collaboratively with the front of house team to ensure seamless delivery
* Adhere to health and hygiene standards, standard operating procedures and safe working practices including food safety systems and legislation (e.g., HACCP)
* Manage stock levels on a day-to-day basis, placing order requests to the Sous Chef, accepting deliveries, and rotating stock as required
Package
You’ll work a variety of shifts across core zoo opening hours, including early mornings and evenings for events or late openings as required.

Our Requirements
* Demonstrable experience of chef skills in a high-volume environment (hotels, venues, restaurants, pubs, or contract catering)
* Understanding of current restaurant and event food trends
* Excellent customer service skills
* Stock handling experience
* Minimum Level 2 Food Safety
* Good COSHH understanding and workplace application
* Good communication and coaching skills
Desirable
* Experience working in a gastro pub or events setting
