Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician
We are actively recruiting 2 posts for the role of a Pre‑Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician. These positions will be either hospital‑only placements or in collaboration with a GP surgery or community pharmacy across East, West and Mid Cornwall.
Applicants must hold a minimum of 5 GCSEs, including Mathematics, English, and a science subject (Chemistry or Biology). Candidates who do not meet these qualifications may contact the point of contact below to discuss alternatives.
Main duties of the job
* Training over a 24‑month period that combines virtual classroom sessions with providers such as Bradford College, Buttercups or the University of East Anglia and on‑the‑job experience at GP practice, community pharmacy and secondary care organisations.
* Build a portfolio and achieve the qualification required to become a certified Pharmacy Technician.
* Receive supervision and assessment throughout the training period; personal time will be required to complete assignments and course knowledge elements.
* Full‑time post (37.5 hours per week); part‑time hours may be considered.

Essential Qualifications
* 5 GCSEs, Grade 4 or above, including Mathematics, English, and a science subject or double science.
Desirable Qualifications
* BTEC Level 2 in Pharmaceutical Science
* Level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills
Essential Additional Circumstances
* Have lived in the UK/EU for the last 3 years and hold a current National Insurance Number.
* Meet requirements to qualify for Apprenticeship funding.
* Able to work the required hours, including weekends and bank holidays.
* Willingness to work with hazardous substances such as toxic chemotherapy products and radioactive sources.
Desirable Additional Circumstances
* Full UK driving licence or working towards one.
Essential Experience
* Ability to work under pressure.
* Ability to apply theory to practice.
Desirable Experience
* Previous experience in hospital, retail or general practice pharmacy.
* Evidence of interest in the work of a Pharmacy Technician.
Essential Practical & Intellectual Skills
* Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office and relevant computer skills.
* Ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines, and manage time effectively.
* Capacity to cope with occasional distressing situations.
Desirable Practical & Intellectual Skills
* Manual dexterity and related skills.
* Experience with JAC or similar computer drug systems.
Disposition / Adjustment / Attitude
* Effective teamwork.
* Ability to bend and lift moderately, push trolleys to wards and departments.
* Concentration for short periods during medicine dispensing.
* Comfortable working in an acute healthcare setting.
* Prepared to travel to different work placements as per the rotational timetable.
