Overview
Acute Oncology Nurse Specialist is sought to support the AOS Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) team in providing advice and support to patients who experience acute symptoms of their cancer and/or treatment. The post holder will work collaboratively with the advanced clinical practitioners (ACP) and the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to ensure efficient patient pathways, a positive patient experience and safe discharge, and will prioritise admissions to the inpatient ward according to admission criteria.
The post requires flexibility in approach to the clinical area and may involve cover for any MVCC area specified, acting as a professional role model, providing direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research. This is an exciting opportunity to join and develop within our dynamic and expanding Acute Oncology Service (AOS) Nursing Team at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre (MVCC).

This post will enable the current team to develop the AOS at MVCC by supporting the AOS CNS team in providing advice and support to patients with acute cancer- or treatment-related symptoms.
They will work collaboratively with the ACPs and MDT to ensure efficient patient pathways, a positive patient experience and safe discharge. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced nurse to develop skills and knowledge of AOS within a supportive learning environment.
In addition, there is a High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of basic salary, subject to a minimum payment of £4,552 and a maximum payment of £5,735 per annum pro rata. Core values include: Include, Respect and Improve.

Responsibilities
* Provide 24-hour/7-day telephone triage during daytime shifts and contribute as part of the 5-day week face-to-face AOS Assessment Unit, supporting patients with acute cancer- or treatment-related symptoms.
* Collaborate with the AOS CNS team, ACPs and the MDT to ensure efficient patient pathways, positive patient experience and safe discharge; prioritise admissions to inpatient wards according to admission criteria.
* Be flexible in approach to the clinical area and provide cover for any MVCC area as specified; act as a professional role model and provide direct and indirect clinical care, teaching and research.
* Support the development of the AOS at MVCC and participate in developing staff skills and knowledge within a supportive learning environment.
