Mechanical Design Engineer – Senior | Building Services & Decarbonisation
I’m working with a growing M&E and Sustainability consultancy delivering multi-million-pound building services and decarbonisation projects across residential, industrial, and commercial sectors. The company has built a strong reputation in sustainable engineering and low-carbon design, offering engineers the chance to work on projects that make a real impact on energy efficiency and carbon reduction.
As part of their expansion, they’re looking to appoint a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to lead building services design from feasibility through to detailed delivery. You’ll head a team of junior engineers, act as the main client contact, and work closely with the Energy Consultancy team. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to projects from new builds and refurbishments to large-scale decarbonisation schemes.
Key Responsibilities – Senior Mechanical Design Engineer:

Lead mechanical building services designs across HVAC, low-carbon heating, and hot & cold water systems
*
Integrate low/zero carbon technologies (heat pumps, district heating, and renewable energy solutions)
*
Produce and review drawings, schematics, and calculations using AutoCAD and industry-standard software
*
Develop technical specifications, equipment schedules, and performance specifications
*
Oversee junior engineers and provide guidance within the design team
*
Act as main point of contact for clients and collaborate closely with the Energy Consultancy team on decarbonisation and net zero projects
*
Contribute to multi-million-pound projects including schools, hospitals, leisure centres, and commercial developments
Ideal Candidate:
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical building services design with experience in HVAC, heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. Candidates should be confident leading projects, managing junior engineers, and liaising with clients. Experience in stakeholder or client-facing roles is highly desirable, as the role involves close collaboration across engineering and energy consultancy teams.
