We have an excellent opportunity for a Schools Finance Officer to join our Schools Finance Team here at Wokingham Borough Council, on an 18-Month Fixed Term Contract.
As the Schools Finance Officer, you will provide effective financial advice, practical support, and valuable training opportunities to schools across the Wokingham Borough.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within the Finance Business Partnering Team, working closely with School Business Managers and colleagues across Children’s Services, playing an important role in assisting schools and the Local Authority in fulfilling their statutory finance duties and responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities
1. Assist the efficient, effective and consistent processing and resolution of customer case work
2. Assist with the understanding of customer needs and enabling a speedier, simpler and more responsive customer journey
3. Supporting customer self-serve and spotting opportunities for the Council to initiate further enabling and self-serve
4. Manage customer issues effectively and understand when to consult with others, including specialists.
5. Maintain confidentiality inline with agreed policy and relevant data protection legislation
6. Assist with the design and development of tools and guidance notes for the areas of specialism to enable the team to self-serve and widen their knowledge
7. Support the continuous improvement of processes and procedures within the service, using best practice from others where appropriate
Candidate requirements
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and innovative individual, able to work on their own initiative, taking ownership of their work, with the ability to interpret, extract and assess important information, especially numerical data. You will have a commitment to embracing change, striving to continually improve, as well as a strong customer service ethos and excellent communication skills.
8. Practical work experience within a similar environment
9. NVQ, BTEC or other relevant qualification in Customer Services (highly desirable)
10. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
11. Good IT skills including experience using Microsoft Office Software (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)
12. Good verbal and written communication skills
