Technical Consultant I, Geotechnical Engineer

Role Context:

Our growing Geotechnical Practice in the UK seeks talented individuals with strong technical and communication skills who are eager to develop and take the next step in their career. The UK Geotechnical Practice works closely with colleagues in UAE and our practices in Australia and North America. The nature of our projects reflects our ethos of global collaboration with active projects in UK, Africa, Asia and Europe.


We are currently recruiting candidates for Geotechnical Consultant positions to be based within either our London Central or Glasgow office. These roles would typically be applicable to candidates with at least 2 years’ relevant experience up to engineer level.

The roles will combine the full range of geotechnical skills from desk studies through designing site investigations, sub-contractor management and the ability to follow on with ground modelling, geotechnical interpretation, design and construction support. The ability to use specialist software such as Open ground and Leapfrog is a desirable skill for the role.
Our projects encompass both onshore and offshore developments and a working knowledge of geotechnical engineering in both environments would be an advantage.

You'll be:

1. Promote a culture of zero harm within the business and our projects.
2. Provide geotechnical engineering knowledge on projects and pursuits, including geological site reconnaissance, geotechnical site characterization, geotechnical data management, geotechnical analysis, geotechnical design, detailing.
3. Field work including supervision and management of geotechncial ground investigations.
4. This will include manging sub-contractors.
5. Deliver quality technical reports and submissions.
6. Support Geoscience leads in the pursuit of new business by contributing towards cost estimates and schedules.
7. Shadow Geoscience team leads by following corporate, safety, sustainability, quality, business development, engineering, procedures and processes.
8. Support growth of the Geoscience Service Line by contributing towards our ever expanding workload.
9. Attend and participate in client meetings, and deliver client and industry facing project presentations.
10. Work as part of an integrated delivery team, comprising other engineering disciplines, professional environmental scientists, project delivery and project support staff on existing and new Worley Consulting/Worley projects.
11. Support the development and implementation of geoscience strategies that are consistent with the divisional and regional Geoscience Service Line plans.

You'll have:

12. A minimum of 2 years of experience practicing geotechnical engineering, ranging from site supervision, pre-feasibility studies through to detailed design and construction.
13. Ability to work in multi-disciplined teams in a fast-paced environment.
14. Experience with Leapfrog and Openground software suites.
15. Self-starter, willing and able to work on a wide variety of tasks.
16. Be able to write clear, logical and concise technical reports.
17. Demonstrate logical and independent thinking.
18. Geotechnical design in accordance with Eurocodes.
19. Strong ability to present, analyse and interpret data to a very high standard.
20. Possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
21. Be willing to travel and spend periods of time away on field-based projects across the UK and internationally.
22. Be eligible to work in the UK and hold a full valid driving licence.
23. Master’s degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering from an accredited institution, including a strong commitment to continuing professional development (CPD).
24. Candidates with Geotechnical Engineering background are preferred although not essential.
25. Chartered or working towards Chartered status.
