Senior MES Automation Engineer
A leading pharmaceutical organisation, operating at the forefront of industrial automation and digital manufacturing, is currently seeking a Senior MES Automation Engineer to join its UK-based team on a 12-month contract.
This is a hybrid contract role offering a balance between remote work and on-site presence, ideal for an experienced professional looking to take ownership of complex MES initiatives within a regulated pharmaceutical environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the design, implementation, and support of MES solutions across manufacturing sites.
* Define MES architectures in line with ISA-95 / ISA-88 standards.
* Configure and customise MES platforms to support production, quality, traceability, and performance.
* Integrate MES with PLC / SCADA systems, historians, and enterprise systems (ERP, databases).
* Act as a senior technical authority for IT / OT integration and data flows.
* Support commissioning, testing (FAT / SAT), and go-live activities.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
* Contribute to project planning, estimations, and technical decision-making.
Required Experience
* Strong experience in a senior MES and / or automation engineering role.
* Hands-on experience with MES platforms such as Siemens Opcenter, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Werum PAS‑X, Apriso, Ignition, or similar.
* Solid background in industrial automation (PLC, SCADA, HMI).
* Experience with systems integration and SQL / databases.
