Walsall Council is offering you an exciting opportunity to join our progressive team, working agilely. This is an opportunity to be part of a talented multi-disciplinary team, providing core public health expertise and assurance to the Council, health and care economy and partners across the Borough. The teams' work programme includes:
* Health Protection and Healthcare
* Inequalities, Mental Wellbeing and Healthy Ageing
* Young People and Health Improvement

The portfolio for the Consultant in Public Health post will offer a stimulating mix of work with multidisciplinary teams across Walsall and The Black Country, supporting building the evidence about what works in new and existing interventions and innovations and how we can create communities and an economy that places wellness as the cultural norm. The key areas of responsibility for the post will include leadership of our Inequalities, Substance Misuse and Mental Wellbeing portfolio in the first instance. We have strong working relationships with our local colleagues and we would encourage our new post holder to be closely involved in the future development of a broad range of established areas of local work, particularly in the areas of inequalities, substance misuse and mental wellbeing.
Responsibilities
* You will be actively encouraged to develop your own areas of interest and utilise our excellent links locally, regionally and nationally.
* You will be able to demonstrate experience in building constructive relationships with senior colleagues in local authorities, the NHS and with other partners in complex environments.
* You will provide strategic public health leadership on different work programmes and be able to help transform public health outcomes for Walsall residents.

You must be included on the GMC Specialist Register in Public Health or the UK Public Health Register for Public Health Specialists, or be in the final stage of your Public Health training.
We are also an accredited training location for public health specialist trainees (medical and non-medical), as well as GPs and FY2 doctors, and receive positive feedback on their training and exposure to a wide range of public health initiatives.
