Responsible to: Soft Services Manager Salary: £14.00 per hour (rising to £14.60 after a successful 3-month probation)
Job Summary
The Cleaning Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day‑to‑day cleanliness and hygiene standards within the shopping centre. This role ensures cleaning staff perform their duties effectively, that all areas remain safe and presentable for customers and tenants, and that service levels meet contractual and operational expectations.
Operational Management
* Supervise, coordinate, and support the daily activities of the cleaning team across all areas of the shopping centre, including mall floors, toilets, back‑of‑house areas, food courts, lifts, staircases, and car parks.
* Ensure all cleaning duties are completed to agreed standards, following schedules and operational requirements.
* Conduct regular inspections of all areas to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with centre standards.
* Report maintenance or repair needs such as lighting, flooring, or waste issues to the appropriate teams.
Team Leadership
* Organise staff rotas, allocate duties, and manage shift coverage to maintain adequate staffing levels.
* Provide on‑the‑job training, coaching, and performance feedback to cleaning operatives.
* Support staff wellbeing, promote positive team morale, and ensure consistent professional behaviour.
Health, Safety & Compliance
* Ensure all cleaning activities follow health and safety regulations, including COSHH guidelines for chemical handling.
* Maintain proper use of equipment, PPE, and cleaning machinery, ensuring staff are trained and equipment is well maintained.
* Complete incident reports and escalate issues such as spills, hazards, or accidents.
Customer & Tenant Service
* Respond promptly and professionally to cleaning-related requests from centre management, retailers, and customers.
* Maintain excellent customer service standards, ensuring the centre remains welcoming and presentable at all times.
Administrative Tasks
* Maintain inventory and manage stock levels of cleaning supplies and equipment.
* Complete daily checklists, inspection reports, and other required documentation.
* Assist with preparation of monthly performance reports or audits.
Skills & Qualifications Essential
* Previous experience in cleaning, facilities, or housekeeping roles.
* Experience supervising or leading a team.
* Strong understanding of cleaning techniques, equipment, and products.
* Good communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently, prioritise tasks, and manage time effectively.
* Knowledge of health & safety procedures, including COSHH.
Desirable
* Experience working in retail, shopping centres, or large public buildings.
* Basic IT skills for completing reports and using task management systems.
* Cleaning or facilities management certifications
Working Conditions
* Supervisors will be required to cover cleaning shifts when necessary, including during staff absences, emergencies, or peak trading periods.
* Role requires standing, walking, and manual handling throughout the shift.
* Uniform and PPE provided.
