As Data Journalist for Retail Week, you will be responsible for outputting news stories, analysis, charts and newsletter copy, through a mix of data projects and stories that come out of connections with industry sources, analysts and data providers.

This role contributes to Retail Week’s Intelligence and Insights output by delivering timely, data-led journalism and analysis that informs, engages and supports the retail sector. Your impact will help drive the authority, credibility and reach of the Retail Week brand.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a budding journalist who wants to develop their career at a highly respected publication and can demonstrate some experience of published journalism writing or analysis material.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Breaking news stories and producing accurate content tailored for the retail sector
* Exercising editorial judgement and decision-making when pitching, selecting and executing data-led story concepts
* Developing strong relationships with senior industry leaders, technology suppliers and data providers, in person and via telephone, email and social media
* Meeting tight deadlines while maintaining high standards of journalistic quality and accuracy
* Pitching and delivering in-depth analysis pieces investigating major retail sector trends
* Creating and adapting content for websites, social media and newsletters
* Conducting interviews and speaking regularly with expert sources
* Working collaboratively with colleagues to support reporting and brand objectives



What You’ll Need

* NCTJ qualification or industry specific equivalent or equivalent professional experience
* A portfolio of published journalism or analysis material
* Ability to write clearly and communicate complex subject matter for a non-technical audience
* Good knowledge of digital journalism practices and social media platforms, especially LinkedIn
* A passion for data and familiarity with basic statistical concepts such as averages and percentage change
* Working knowledge of spreadsheet software such as Excel
* Excellent news and editorial judgement and storytelling skills
* Ability to build relationships, interview and network with industry sources, both on the phone, in-person and digitally
* Adaptability and commitment to continuous learning
* Some flexibility in working hours may be needed to attend conferences and events
