Job overview
We are seeking an experienced qualified professional who can provide strong leadership and knowledge in relation to safeguarding, developing a culture that safeguards children and adults at risk.
The post holder will deliver safeguarding strategic priorities, lead a team providing trust-wide specialist advice and support on safeguarding and vulnerability issues, and offer specialist health advice across partner agencies.
The post holder will demonstrate clinical expertise and understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures, including relevant legislation such as the Children Act (2004), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the Mental Capacity Act (2005), DoLS and LPS, the Domestic Abuse Act (2021), the Care Act (2014), and the NHS Sexual Safety Charter.
They will support and deputise for the Head of Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities to ensure the trust meets its safeguarding responsibilities and maintains high standards to meet statutory and contractual obligations.
Main duties of the job
Work autonomously to meet the trust's needs, with authority to act on safeguarding matters.
Monitor safeguarding activities and use data to inform reports to trust committees and partner agencies.
Collaborate with designated and named professionals across the health economy to develop communication systems.
Implement recommendations from case reviews and practice audits.
Provide specialist advice and guidance to the Safeguarding Committee and support legal proceedings related to child protection.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
* Act as an expert resource, challenging safeguarding practices that do not align with guidance or standards.
* Lead the development, implementation, and monitoring of safeguarding strategies, policies, and procedures in line with local safeguarding boards.
* Contribute to the trust’s safeguarding reports and audits.
* Embed safeguarding supervision and provide day-to-day expert advice on safeguarding of children and adults.
* Lead in dissemination of lessons learned from reviews and case management.
* Manage the safeguarding and vulnerabilities team, including conduct and development.
* Ensure high standards of safeguarding practice, including quality assurance of assessments and applications.
* Advise on organizational risks related to safeguarding legislation and reviews.
* Develop and deliver the safeguarding committee’s agenda and work plans.
* Deputise for the Head of Safeguarding as needed.
Person specification
Qualifications
* Registered Children’s Nurse / Registered General Nurse
* Midwife / Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) / Health Visitor
* Extensive safeguarding experience and current registration
* Degree-level education or equivalent experience
* Professional development in safeguarding
* Teaching or assessing qualification desirable
Experience
* Post-qualification safeguarding practice experience
* Leadership in healthcare settings, including acute or community care
* Supporting domestic abuse victims and complex caseload management
* Policy development, training delivery, and quality assurance
* Experience with mental health, learning disabilities, and ASD
Skills and Knowledge
