Job Introduction
This is your chance to be at the forefront of one of BBC News' most important and high-profile projects. Your Voice, Your BBC News puts the audience at the heart of our coverage by developing stories they have suggested.
You will work with other team members to generate and develop stories from responses we've received through the website, on email and on WhatsApp.
The role would suit a creative video journalist with a passion for the public and their concerns and a strong news sense; who can spot the needle in the haystack of responses, know where to find the missing fabric and what pattern to follow to sew together the story.
It will involve a lot of collaboration both inside and outside the team and you may be required to oversee the work of more junior team members at times.
Main Responsibilities
Suggest and develop original multi-platform network stories using user-generated content as a starting point.
Gather and produce material, routinely self-shooting and editing complete packages for use across multiple platforms.
Collaborate enthusiastically and respectfully with other team members and take a lead in project delivery.
Prioritise and plan activities to manage time efficiently and independently to meet deadlines, without relying on regular direction.
Liaise closely with other teams and departments in the BBC to ensure that output material is shared, duplication is avoided, and best practice is upheld.
Use a range of video, audio and digital equipment and information technology to research, write, capture, edit and deliver content for all BBC News outlets and platforms, including online, TV and audio, to the highest professional standards.
Exercise editorial judgment in developing story ideas and producing accurate and impartial journalism.
The role is primarily producing, shooting and editing rather than reporting.
Are you the Right Candidate?
Ability to gather and prepare audio and video material for use on any service, recognising the distinct requirements of different types of output, self-shooting and editing routinely as the main focus of the role.
Significant recent experience as a journalist, with a good knowledge of production techniques and the ability to create content for online, radio and TV.
Strong record of originating and developing stories for national news programmes from user-generated content.
Enthusiasm for the public, respect for their interests and desire to speak to them.
Commitment to be based in Yorkshire, attend the Leeds office frequently and regularly, collaborate in-person with colleagues and be available to the Leeds team.
Work positively, flexibly and respectfully in a team in a role subject to changing priorities and circumstances.
Productive, outcome-focused and willing to be judged on output rather than time spent on a task.
Effective planning and organising skills, ability to concentrate on several areas of work at one time, delivering consistently to deadlines and reacting positively to changes and conflicting priorities.
