This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic, well-organised individual who enjoys working collaboratively and is committed to supporting adults with communication and swallowing needs. You will play a key role in delivering high-quality care across our mental health services.
As a Band 4 SaLTA, you will work alongside our experienced Speech and Language Therapists to support service users across Bath, Swindon, and Wiltshire. Your work will include supporting adults with a range of needs, including:
* Mental health conditions.
* Autism.
* Dementia.
* Acquired neurological conditions.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will:
* work under the direction of a HCPC registered Speech and Language therapist to support with individuals with mental health conditions and difficultly with communication and/or eating and drinking safely, in a variety of settings including in-patient wards including PICU, acute adults, specialist older peoples wards and the community where appropriate.
* have a delegated caseload which will be regularly reviewed with your professional supervisor.
* work routinely with people who may also experience additional communication barriers relating to language, social communication, physical health, neurodiversity and learning disability.
* be an integral member of the AHP team and wider multi-professional team.
* provide support and assist in the preparation and running of therapy groups.
* carry out assessment activities within agreed scope of practice.
* utilize a wide range of strategies/interventions to meet the communication/eating and drinking difficulties of service users under the supervision of a qualified Speech and Language Therapist.
* support development and delivery of training on universal strategies within the ward environment for language & communication.
* maintain a Continuing Professional Development portfolio and work towards greater competency, using the Assistant competency framework with your supervisor.

Job responsibilities
You will be based at one of our inpatient hospital sites in Bath or Swindon and will travel within the AWP footprint to provide care where its needed most.

Person Specification
Education/Qualification
* Study and achievement at A level, and/or Level 5 Health and Care Apprenticeship and/or relevant foundation degree
* Speech and Language Therapy specific training modules
Experience and Knowledge
* Experience of working with adults in any of the following groups: Mental health, learning disabilities, autistic people, dementia, acquired neurological conditions
* Experience using different and modifying communication to meet individual needs
* Experience or knowledge of quality improvement in healthcare
* Experience as an AHP Support Worker
* Experience of working with people with complex needs
* Trained in provision of easy read
* Knowledge and scope of speech and language therapy in mental health
* Experience of delivering training or education sessions
Skills and Abilities
* Excellent communication skills - oral and written
* Ability to manage own workload, work independently and under supervision
* Able to use a full range of Microsoft packages and have excellent IT skills
* Ability to work professionally and understand the need for confidentiality
Other Requirements
* Empathy for individuals who have experienced mental health problems
* Ability to cope with behaviour which may become challenging at times
