Head of Infrastructure & Security at Fletchers Group
Overview
We are seeking a forward-thinking Head of Infrastructure & Security to shape and lead the future of our technology platforms. Reporting directly to the Technology Director, you will own the infrastructure and security platforms, ensuring day-to-day resilience, operational reliability, and enforcement of standards, with the opportunity to help shape long-term strategy and enable future growth. This is a senior technology leadership role to drive secure, scalable services and support strategic growth and M&A activity.
Office locations: Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Bolton, Southport, Newcastle, Reading, Birmingham, Northampton, and Cambridge. Hybrid working available – with the flexibility to work from home and collaborate in-office when needed.

Main Responsibilities
Strategy, Architecture & Roadmap
* Contribute to and execute the technology strategy in partnership with the Technology Director and target architecture; accountable for execution and adherence to standards across on-prem, Azure, identity, endpoint, data, application, network and edge.
* Define high-level and low-level designs; manage non-functional requirements (availability, performance, security, DR).
* Drive Zero Trust principles, least privilege, and modern identity requirements.
Operations & Reliability
* Ensure reliable, secure BAU operation of the entire technology estate, including sites/offices, Azure and on-prem platforms.
* Meet SLOs/SLAs for availability, performance, capacity, and incident response.
* Accountable for vulnerability & patch management, backup/restore, and disaster recovery, with regular recovery tests.
Security Governance & Controls
* Own the ISMS-aligned control set (e.g., ISO 27001, Cyber Essentials Plus) including policies, standards, and technical controls.
* Oversee threat detection & response with the SOC (e.g., Defender/Sentinel), incident playbooks, and tabletop exercises.
* Ensure audit readiness and evidence for internal/external audits and ITGCs; manage risk register and corrective actions.
* Embed secure-by-design in change delivery (design reviews, threat modelling, security gates).
Change, Projects & M&A
* Partner with the Head of Technical Projects on large change/M&A, coordinate technical personnel, act as infra/security design authority, set NFRs and security controls, and approve service acceptance into BAU.
* Serve as Technical Change Authority for infrastructure & security, maintaining the release/change calendar and approve/reject changes based on risk, impact, and readiness; enforce standards, testing evidence, capacity planning, DR alignment, monitoring, and back-out plans before go-live.
People, Partners & Budget
* Lead and develop the infrastructure/security team and manage external partners (e.g., SOC, MSPs, vendors).
* Manage budgets and licensing, negotiate contracts, and optimise cost/performance.
Stakeholder Management & Communication
* Provide clear risk/incident/compliance reporting to the Director and senior leadership.
* Translate technical risk into business impact and actionable decisions.
Essential Skills And Experience
Technical Expertise (Essential)
* Prior senior IT leadership (Manager/Head of) experience running operational platforms and delivering enterprise-wide transformation.
* Track record across full lifecycle platform/application change: architecture, integration, testing, upgrades and cutovers.
* Experience creating and landing technology strategy with buy-in up to C-suite/board.
* Strong commercial acumen, contract/vendor management and knowledge of IT controls, compliance and governance.
* Proven background in infrastructure and IT operations.
* Strong Microsoft Azure skills (IaaS, PaaS, identity, and hybrid environments).
* Understanding of application development practices.
* Experience with data migration, systems & Cloud consolidation.
* Proven ownership of security operations & governance (SIEM/XDR, incident response, vulnerability mgmt.) and producing audit evidence.
* Success developing teams and maturing processes, tools and ways of working.
Desirable Skills And Experience
* Experience in the legal sector or other regulated industries.
* Knowledge of Proclaim or equivalent case management systems.
* Infrastructure as Code & automation: PowerShell, Bicep/Terraform, GitHub/Azure DevOps pipelines.
* Data protection & governance: Microsoft Purview (DLP, retention, legal hold/eDiscovery).
* Familiarity with ISO 27001.
* Technology Certifications.
