Sewell Wallis is partnering with a global professional services business in the heart of Leeds, West Yorkshire, to find an ambitious and driven Financial Accountant to join their team on a permanent basis.
As a Financial Accountant, you will be involved with both accounting duties and industry‑specific finance functions, alongside project work around process improvement. You will be overseeing financial reporting for multiple entities, reconciling accounts and assisting with month‑end. This is a hands‑on role that provides the opportunity to shape internal processes and drive culture within a well‑performing global company.
What will you be doing?
* Take ownership of aspects of financial reporting and balance sheet controls, taking end‑to‑end responsibility for certain month/year‑end activities.
* Create process improvements, suggest changes to enhance the control environment and improve decision‑making insight.
* Provide reliable quarterly management accounts for a range of units.
* Compile annual trial balance and financial statements for certain units within the UK‑based group, ready for Finance Manager review and subsequent external audit, ensuring accuracy and complete analysis.
* Reconcile all balance sheet accounts, often unguided, for the relevant units, as well as other key accounts, including distributions and payroll costs.
* Develop, implement and maintain a new model for regular reconciliation of EMEA intercompany balances; resolve reconciling items in a timely manner and adapt controls to prevent recurrence where feasible.
* Own accuracy of, and prepare, VAT reporting for various units.
* Provide data to external statutory auditors during their audits, ensuring this meets expected standards and guide them through the analysis.
* Prepare and deliver various regular reports to internal stakeholders.
* Prepare and post monthly journals for the month‑end routine.
* Calculate and bill certain shared overhead costs to fellow group entities.
* Ensure banking procedures are secure and controlled, addressing any gaps in controls.
* Hold responsibility for banking authorisation, ensuring payments are protected and any missing components are addressed.
* Provide a critical approach to all transactions, recommend improvements and identify errors or potential errors.
What skills are we looking for?
* Qualified ACA, ACCA or CIMA.
* Experience working in a similar role (Industry or Practice background).
* Ambitious and driven.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Strong Excel skills.
