Head of Research, Development & Innovation
The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is a small organisation with big ambitions to be vertically integrated, leading the delivery of healthcare to the population of West Essex and East Hertfordshire. We already have a strong research profile and are looking for someone to build on these successes, delivering a healthcare research portfolio that meets the needs of our local population. Participation in research improves health outcomes, and our people deserve the best.
Role
The Trust values patient care, everyday excellence, and creative collaboration. Based on our values, the top three priorities for the role are:
* Promoting Research Governance: Compliance with regulations governing clinical trials and research activities; policy development and implementation across the Trust; monitoring and auditing to meet national requirements.
* User and Carer Involvement: Developing and expanding the Trust’s role in supporting user and carer involvement in research at all levels; raising awareness and providing training for Trust staff to undertake research and innovation activities.
* Resource and Financial Management: Ensuring the necessary infrastructure and trained personnel are available to lead or contribute to NIHR portfolio studies; budgeting for the R&D department; full costing of projects and maximising cost recovery from external funders; income generation from NIHR portfolio studies, commercial trials, and charity/university studies; sustaining a balanced programme of observational/genetic and interventional studies benefiting the local population.
Our Organisation
The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust (PAHT) provides a full range of general acute, outpatient and diagnostic services at The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishop’s Stortford, and St Margaret’s Hospital in Epping. We employ 3,500 staff and serve a local population of around 350,000, with an extended catchment up to 500,000 across west Essex and east Hertfordshire.
Our Values
The Princess Alexandra Promise To Our Patients, identified by our three values, contributes to improving patient experiences:
Patient at heart – Always keeping the patient and their wellbeing at the centre of our thoughts and efforts
Everyday excellence – Sharing and celebrating successes, being honest when we get it wrong, learning from it
Creative collaboration – Strength comes from diversity; we combine experiences, skills and talents to find new and better ways to care
The Trust is committed to investing in staff and rewarding high standards of care while building for excellence. Staff are expected to uphold the Trust values.
