Health Care Support Worker / Theatre Nursing Assistant
Be part of the team that delivers world‑class cardiovascular care at the Barts Heart Centre. We’re looking for an enthusiastic, proactive healthcare support worker with theatre knowledge to join our new 10‑theatre complex, complex electrophysiology cases and the nationally recognised Heart Attack Centre.
Job Summary
In this role you will assist Registered Theatre Practitioners within the operating theatre and surrounding areas, anticipating patient needs and supporting safe, efficient care. You will develop practical skills in an advanced cardiac surgical environment.
Responsibilities
* Assist in the preparation and management of theatre procedures.
* Provide support to the operating team while maintaining patient confidentiality.
* Manage inventory, equipment and supplies in accordance with infection control and health & safety regulations.
* Document patient-related activities accurately and securely.
* Operate safely with medical devices and supplementary items.
* Organise own workload and adapt to flexible working hours.
* Contribute to continuous improvement of theatre processes and quality of care.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in Perioperative Care Support or equivalent.
* Level 2 Numeracy & Literacy (or equivalent).
Desirable
* Infection Control Training.
Experience
* Experience working within a team in an operating theatre or similar environment.
* Ability to use initiative in the performance of duties.
Essential Skills
* Clear verbal and written communication.
* Caring and respectful attitude to all patients and staff.
* Efficient use of resources and organisation skills.
* Safe use of medical devices and proper data handling.
* Ability to work flexible hours to meet service needs.
Knowledge
* Understanding of confidentiality and cross‑infection prevention.
* Awareness of health & safety legislation.
* Basic IT skills.
Working Conditions
Location: St Bartholomew’s Hospital, West Smithfield, London, EC1A 7BE.
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Full‑time, Flexible working
Band: 3
Salary: £24,937 – £26,598 per annum (incvat)
