Role: Teaching Assistant (Level 2) – Community and ESOL

Location: Central Bedfordshire College – Dunstable Kingsway Campus

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £24,720 and £29,870 per annum DOE and Qualifications, 27 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Full Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant (Level 2) to join our Adult and Community Learning and ESOL department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Teaching Assistant (Level 2), you play an important role in the success of our students through:

1. Student Support & Inclusion – Assists with the educational, personal, and social needs of students, including those with SEND, promoting inclusive participation and positive behaviour.
2. Learning Resource Preparation & Delivery – Prepares teaching materials, supports curriculum activities, and provides class cover during tutor absence, contributing to a high-quality learning experience.
3. Administrative & Operational Support – Manages departmental admin tasks such as data entry, filing, and document preparation, while maintaining accurate student records and supporting communication.
4. Collaboration & Professional Conduct – Works closely with teaching and support staff, attends meetings, maintains confidentiality, and supports cross-departmental cover when needed.
5. Compliance & Development – Upholds safeguarding, EDI, and health and safety standards, and actively engages in training and development to enhance role effectiveness.

About you:

6. Qualifications & Technical Skills – Holds a Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning and Level 2 English and Maths; proficient in Microsoft Office and ICT tools.
7. Educational Support Experience – Experienced in supporting students within educational settings, with strong skills in behaviour management, record keeping, and administrative tasks.
8. Professional Attributes – Empathetic, discreet, proactive, and detail-oriented; demonstrates resilience, flexibility, and a commitment to continuous development and teamwork.
9. Safeguarding & Inclusion Awareness – Understands safeguarding practices, promotes inclusion, and maintains confidentiality while supporting both educational and administrative functions.
10. Communication & Collaboration – Communicates effectively across formats, builds positive relationships with students and staff, and contributes to a welcoming and supportive learning environment.

The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
