Urology Nurse

An opportunity has arisen for a flexible and motivated Registered Nurse to join our team within the Urology Outpatients services. The role involves working within the outpatient clinics assisting the Urologists with their diagnosis by undertaking various Urological procedures.

You will also have the opportunity to work alongside the specialist nurses within the department, assisting with many day case procedures and attending focus groups.

The Clinic nurse will be expected to support patients and carers and provide the relevant written patient information. These clinics care for patients with both benign and malignant Urological conditions. Catheterisation is a requirement of the role and competence in this is an advantage but training will be given to the suitable candidate.

Self and department development is important and the successful candidate must be willing to partake in further development both educationally and clinically, and play an active role inthe further development of the department including nurse led clinics. You will be expected to guide junior members of the team and mentor students within the department.


Main duties of the job

Organising and running the consultant urologist outpatient clinics. o Assisting and chaperoning the Urologist. o Undertaking the following procedures o Flow rate studies, bladder scan, bloods, catheterisation. o Providing information to patient and carers. o Mentoring students and supervising junior staff. o Assisting the CNS's in Day Case procedures within the department. o Taking an active part in further in department development. o A clinical practitioner who is developing their expertise within their speciality.

Person Specification


Knowledge and Experience

* NMC Registered Nurse
* Evidence of post-registration qualification/education to diploma/degree
* Commitment to continuing professional development; with an enthusiasm for learning
* Awareness and understanding of current issues within nursing, midwifery and the wider NHS


Skills

* The ability to communicate with patients and their families/carers during a highly stressful time, requiring the ability to alter communication strategies dependent on the situation and the patient's status
* To demonstrate accuracy and clarity in verbal, written and electronic communication; and appropriate information storage
* The ability to perform urology related procedures e.g. flow studies, Catheterization, bladder scanning, taking bloods
* The ability to make judgments on problems requiring investigation, analysis e.g., assessment of patient condition, suitability for discharge
* Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate clinical care
* The ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to ensure high quality nursing/midwifery service
* Demonstrates personal duty of care in relation to the safe use of equipment and other resources


Qualifications

* Educated to Diploma level or equivalent level of education, training or experience
* Registered Nurse/ Midwife (NMC Registration)
* Leadership Qualification
