The role of the Nursery Manager is to provide professional leadership and management whilst ensuring all children receive high quality care and education. To ensure children are kept safe and are provided with planned and stimulating play experiences which meet their individual needs and support all aspects of Realising the Ambition and Curriculum for Excellence.
Nursery Management Responsibilities include:
1. Plan and deliver effective management of the Nursery based on the School Improvement Plan, Nursery Improvement Plan, and Self-Evaluation requirements.
2. Ensure the Nursery adheres to all relevant legislation, Local Authority regulations, Care Inspectorate guidelines, and Education Scotland requirements.
3. Maintain the highest quality of provision at all times, striving to achieve the best ratings possible.
4. Manage the Nursery’s Quality Assurance Programme.
5. Develop and enhance positive relationships with all service users.
6. Organise staff meetings, including preparing agendas and addressing points raised
7. Provide all service users and staff with consistent and clear communication regarding nursery updates, general information, and upcoming event
Staff Management:
8. Ensure that staff adhere to the School and Nursery Policies, objectives, the Nursery Staff Handbook, and the SSSC Code of Practice.
9. Collaborate with your team to build positive and productive relationships
10. Ensure effective performance evaluations of staff and regularly assess their development needs.
11. Promote effective training programs and ensure staff feel supported in their roles
Safeguarding/Child Protection:
12. Act as the Nursery Child Protection Officer.
13. Update policies and procedures as needed.
14. Serve as Fire Marshal.
15. Prioritise the safeguarding of children and staff above all else.
16. Promote and maintain a reputation for providing exemplary childcare.
Curriculum Management:
17. Manage and continuously improve the delivery of the Realising the Ambition and the Curriculum for Excellence.
18. Ensure rigorous observation and recording processes are in place to maintain accurate Children’s Learning Journeys.
19. Oversee Personal Plans and maintain effective partnerships with external agencies and professionals, such as Health Visitors, to promote children’s well-being.
Classroom Duties:
Assist with classroom responsibilities as needed and provide support to staff in the areas where it is required.
In Collaboration with the Nursery Admin Manager:
20. Manage the recruitment process for Nursery staff.
21. Ensure the Nursery meets target occupancy levels.
22. Address matters involving the Care Inspectorate, SSSC, and Education Scotland.
23. Manage the Nursery budget effectively.
24. Manage visitors and phone calls.
25. Handle emails and correspondence as required.
26. Organise visits for potential parents.
27. Manage orders and deliveries.
28. Implement the Absence Management Policy.
29. Oversee health and safety matters, including risk assessments for premises and outings.
30. Attend meetings with Aberdeenshire Council and other organisations as necessary.
Additional Duties:
31. Coordinate with the Nursery Admin Manager regarding any other matters related to the nursery.
32. Contribute as an effective member of the wider Lathallan Senior Leadership Team.
33. Undertake all other duties, responsibilities, and tasks as reasonably requested by the headmaster.
Qualifications required:
34. A proven track record in leadership along with dedication and drive are required along with a minimum qualification of an SVQ 3/4 in Childcare or equivalent.
35. The candidate will be required to work towards PDA Level 9, BA in Childhood Practice or other relevant qualification if not already held
Working hours:
36. 40 hours per week, to be worked flexibly between the hours of 7:30am and 6pm Monday to Friday subject to the needs of the nursery
Pay and Benefits:
37. Salary £45, per annum
