We seek to appoint a Head of Sixth Form, to lead, inspire and motivate all students in the Sixth Form, ensuring their welfare, success and a consistently outstanding experience in line with the school’s aims and development plan and safeguarding procedures.

Specific duties

The Head of Sixth Form will have responsibility for the day-to-day running of the Sixth Form, the academic progress and pastoral welfare of the Sixth Form students, recruitment of students into the Sixth Form and the operation of the Sixth Form centre.

As a key member of the school’s Middle Leadership Team, the Head of Sixth Form will contribute to the overall leadership and management of the School, be active in promoting its aims, and supporting an ethos that promotes achievement and high standards.

In order to fulfil this role effectively, the following qualities and characteristics are required in addition to those outlined in the teacher’s job description:

•Impact and influence: the ability and the drive to produce positive outcomes by impressing and influencing others.

•Team working: the ability to work with others to achieve shared goals.

•Understanding others: the drive and ability to understand others, and why they behave as they do.

Developing people

•Act as role model to demonstrate leadership in line with the school’s ethos and values

•Encourage staff to work together and share expertise within and across teams

•Use coaching skills to help staff achieve their potential

Reflecting

•Reflect on personal and professional development

•Use feedback from all levels of the school to help improve the way you lead, manage and

develop staff

•Be aware of your own skills of self-management as regards time, prioritising workload and achieving a work/life balance

Inspiring

•Be able to inspire staff and students with the highest standards and expectations

•Be able to take the initiative and lead from the front.

•Liaise with Parents/Guardians & other outside agencies as appropriate, including attendance at Case Conferences when necessary.

•Lead assemblies in accordance with the school’s values & ethos [including the promotion of staff and student participation in assemblies]

•Promote participation of students in the Year Council & Whole School Council.

•Undertake supervisory duties as per duty rota.

•Use the analysis of PASS to identify & take appropriate action to support pupils at risk.
