Overview

We are looking for a Biomedical Scientist in Microbiology to join our team at Broomfield Hospital on a full time permanent basis.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic, motivated and adaptable HCPC registered Biomedical Scientists who have demonstrational experience within Microbiology.

Broomfield Hospital is part of the Mid and South Essex Hospital group with a busy Emergency Department, an internationally renowned Regional Burns Unit and Plastic Surgery Unit as well as a busy Renal Unit.

We are a busy Microbiology department with approx. 35+ staff, and we are a friendly modern laboratory looking to replace the current post holder who is internally moving to a new post after promotion.

Please be aware this role may close early due to number of applications.

We are a busy department with a wide-ranging repertoire of diagnostic testing and currently process approximately 350,000 tests per year.

A comprehensive knowledge of Microbiology would be required, and you would be joining a friendly and dedicated team of scientists working within Pathology.

The department currently utilises the following equipment: Vitek2, BacT/Alert (TB & blood culture systems), Sysmex UF5000 Urine analyser, two Hologic Panthers and two Diasorin Liaison XL machines. There is a requirement for staff to apply who have experience with this and sound general bacteriology knowledge from a UK NHS or Private laboratory.


Responsibilities

* Operate within a 24/7 diagnostic service, 365 days a year; participate in a shift working pattern, including weekends and Bank Holidays.
* Work as part of a team of scientists within Pathology and contribute to a wide range of diagnostic testing.
* Be prepared to take part in the Service On call rota covering 7 days per week, 365 days per year, post skill based training.
* Engage in service delivery improvements and maintain good laboratory practice.


Qualifications and Requirements

* HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with demonstrational Microbiology experience.
* Sound general bacteriology knowledge and experience with the listed equipment or willingness to learn.
* Experience in a UK NHS or Private laboratory setting preferred.
