Role Overview
An excellent opportunity for a dynamic and experienced Advanced Social Worker to join South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust as our Professional Head of Social Work. The role reports to the Director of Social Care and is a key member of the social work leadership team, embedded within an extensive multi‑professional leadership structure.
The position is pivotal in strengthening the visibility, voice and impact of social work across the Trust. It involves developing, supporting and championing a high‑standard workforce, driving professional development and innovation, and shaping a culture where social work thrives and our values are reflected in daily care.
Key Responsibilities
* Work closely with the Director of Social Care and the senior social work leadership team, and operate within the multi‑disciplinary mental health services for adults, young people and children.
* Lead the development, support and championship of the social work workforce, ensuring consistently high standards of practice, professional development and innovation.
* Shape a culture where social work thrives and values are reflected in the care delivered every day.
* Provide expert consultancy, supervision, training and guidance across the Trust.
* Serve as the primary link with Higher Education Institutions and social work training providers, facilitating training programmes and delivering guest lecturing when required.
* Contribute to the development of person‑centred, strengths‑based, relational and trauma‑informed approaches, embedding personalisation, choice and control into frontline services.
* Key contributor to the development and delivery of a responsive, inclusive, cultural and equality‑sensitive Social Work workforce plan.
* Support the Director of Social Care’s aim to make SLAM the employer of choice for Social Work in the NHS.
