Senior Electrical Engineer – Environment Agency, Standards and Engineering team.
Overview
This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer with knowledge of high, medium, low and extra‑low voltage electrical systems and equipment. Expertise relating to control systems design and SCADA/telemetry systems would be beneficial. Working within the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate you will influence and shape how we deliver our services into the future. As part of our Technical Authority you will provide technical engineering leadership and support to the whole organisation to meet our objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets and meet our commitments to net zero carbon.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including electrical safety rules, for HV and LV power systems and control systems within assets such as pumping stations, water management and flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees managing or carrying out work on our electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role (may be within normal working hours or out of hours).
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support to the entire organisation.
* Influence and shape the future delivery of our services.
Experience & Skills Required
* Good working knowledge of Electricity at Work regulations and BS 7671, IET wiring regulations.
* Knowledge of control systems, including IEC 61508, IEC 62061, BS EN 13489 and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience in developing and delivering Safe systems of work, risk assessments, method statements.
* Proficient in testing and isolating high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Strong understanding of a risk‑based approach to electrical maintenance philosophies and implementation, including FMEA, reliability systems and processes.
* Experience drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team working and communication skills.
Additional Information
Hybrid role – base location near your home. Some travel and overnights may be required. Incident management objective in development plan. Training will be provided.

Requirements
* UK driving licence.
* Must hold current membership of a recognised engineering institution and be registered as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working towards registration within 12 months.
