Senior Advisor - Future Agriculture - Environmental Land Management - 31666

This role supports the reform of agricultural policy and spending, moving from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to Environmental Land Management (ELM) schemes. ELM schemes incentivise farmers and land managers to deliver water, soil and biodiversity outcomes alongside food production. You will work with Defra and delivery partner colleagues to improve our services to farmers and help deliver the EA2030 strategy and government targets for water, environment and climate. This role includes influencing the design and delivery of incentives within the wider context of regulatory reform and government reviews aimed at delivering clean water, greater economic growth and nature recovery.
The Environment Agency ELM team is seeking dynamic, strategic thinkers to inform and shape the future of ELM, particularly the delivery of Countryside Stewardship Higher Tier (CSHT). You will contribute to the delivery of key CSHT products for the Farming and Countryside Programme and support continuous improvement of the scheme through its design and delivery.
Responsibilities include:
* Provide advice in meetings, manage commissions, and oversee programme milestones
* Identify future risks and resource requirements
* Work across teams and organisations with senior leaders to articulate a scheme that supports and delivers outcomes
Location and working arrangements: EA Office base with flexible/hybrid working in England. Some travel and overnight stays may be required. We use smart tools to stay connected and reduce travel.
Experience / Skills Required
* Experience of Agriculture and working with Defra and other statutory bodies is essential
* Politically aware with excellent communication and networking skills
* Understanding of environmental sensitivities associated with significant agriculture sector reform
* Experience interpreting and evaluating evidence to propose risk-based solutions
* Ability to prioritise and deliver complex work
* Self-starter who actively develops and advances ideas
