Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for Health Care Support Worker (HCSW) who aspires to work in a busy, active and evolving Acute Medical Ward. The successful candidate will provide support to the registered nursing staff to ensure the delivery of high quality care. Previous experience is desirable but not essential as full training will be given. You will have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills and will be expected to deliver relevant care without direct supervision.
You must be committed to delivering person-centred care. The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, self-motivated and a committed individual with a desire to join a progressive, innovative team. A keen interest in working within an acute setting and the drive to learn new skills is essential.
Responsibilities
* Provide support to registered nursing staff to ensure delivery of high quality care in a busy Acute Medical Ward.
* Carry out assigned tasks to deliver high standard, safe, effective, and person-centred care.
* Demonstrate good communication with patients, carers and relatives; contribute to a positive patient experience.
* Participate in a comprehensive induction package and annual appraisal process.
* Rotate across shifts; include night duty as part of 24/7 inpatient service coverage.
Qualifications and requirements
* Previous experience is desirable but not essential; full training will be provided.
* Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills; ability to work without direct supervision.
* Commitment to person-centred care; enthusiastic, self-motivated and a team player.
* Ability to communicate well with patients, carers and relatives; perform assigned tasks to ensure safe and high-quality care.
* Willingness to work across 24/7 shift patterns, including nights.
Additional information
* As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will reduce from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part-time hours will be reduced pro-rata; there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so pay is not affected.
* A requirement of this post is to become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to appointment.
