About The Role

In partnership with bp (British Petroleum), Balfour Beatty has been selected to construct a first‑of‑a‑kind fully integrated gas‑fired power station with carbon capture and storage, a key driver behind plans to make Teesside the UK’s first decarbonised industrial cluster.

We are seeking a dynamic Mechanical Quality Engineer to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our Redcar and Cleveland site.


Responsibilities

Ensure that the Quality Control requirements of the approved Quality System for the contract are fully implemented and that the quality standards of the appropriate specifications are achieved with the quality documentation available to confirm the acceptance conformity of the product and/or service.

* QC Engineer reporting to the Quality Manager
* Promote a Right First Time Culture
* Ensure the quality standards of the business and the client are consistently met and compliant with the specifications; ASME
* Be fully aware of the relevant scope of work, technical specifications and quality standards
* Operate relevant Quality Control procedures to provide evidence that the quality standards have been achieved
* Review quality plans, method statements, procedures etc of sub‑contractors to ensure compliance with the requirements of the contract
* Liaise with sub‑contract engineers and sub‑contractors to ensure that the Inspection & Test Plan (ITP) operations are signed as acceptable by the appropriate designated authority with the appropriate quality documentation generated
* Ensure that the relevant inspections and tests are carried out in accordance with the ITP and clients requirements and ensure that the operation of the quality plan is signed upon acceptance with the appropriate documentation generated
* Liaise with engineers, supervisors, NDT or heat treatment co‑ordinators to ensure that the appropriate formal requests for NDT, heat treatment and testing as applicable are prepared and issued
* Assist as required with the correlation and reviews of NDT reports, heat treatment charts, test reports etc, compiling on an ongoing basis the appropriate quality documentation package
* Ensure that corrective actions are duly recorded and the end results acceptable in accordance with the requirements of the technical specifications of the contract
* Ensure that the appropriate quality documentation for any non‑conformances raised is signed and dated upon acceptance with the documents retained in the appropriate quality documentation package
* Be fully aware of and understand the referencing / numbering system being applied for the identification of all items and monitor application of the system by all parties on the contract, including sub‑contractors
* Review, correlate and compile on an ongoing basis throughout the contract all quality documentation
* Provide information, as requested, to Line Manager to enable the trends and reasons for non‑conformances arising to be analysed


Minimum Qualifications

* ONC Engineering Craft or equivalent (e.g., City & Guilds Certificate)
* CSWIP / PCN 3.1 Welding Inspector


Preferred Qualifications

* HNC (or equivalent) in Quality Assurance or Engineering with QA Components
* Associate Member of the Institute of Quality Assurance (AMIQA)
* Engineering Council Registered Professional Engineer
* Internal Auditors Ticket
* CQI Certificate in Quality Management
* CSWIP Radiographic Interpretation
* CSWIP 3.1 Weld Inspector


Key Competencies

* Knowledge and understanding of ISO 9000 series Quality Standards
* Knowledge and effective application of BS(EN), ASME and other relevant standards
* Interpretation of engineering drawings
* Interpretation of technical specifications
* Effective application of codes, standards and quality inspection requirements
* Effective application of Doosan Babcock Quality procedures
* Effective communication skills
* Effective document management
* Good IT skills
