Job Overview

Unscheduled Care/General Medicine is appointing a Fixed Term Appointment for IMT1 Non‑Trainee cover based in Diabetes and Endocrinology Gwent Hospital with General Medicine on‑call commitments based in RGH. The expectation of the role is to provide junior grade support as part of a multi‑disciplinary team in a 30‑beded subspecialty ward. The post holder will participate in consultant‑led ward rounds as part of the MDT and undertake a rotational programme to experience all clinical aspects of medicine within the Royal Gwent Hospital, supported to meet individual training needs.

The post holder will be expected to participate in the junior on‑call rota which is currently 1:10 working both days and nights. On average there are about 30‑40 acute admissions per day through the AMU with a well‑established front‑door model for Acute Medicine and Elderly Frail Medicine. The AMU is comprised of approx. 24 trolleys /beds, which the post holder will be covering when on‑call.


Main duties of the job

* The main responsibilities are for the effective and appropriate medical care of inpatients admitted under the care of the Consultant Physician.
* The duties and responsibilities will be appropriate to the grade and speciality with appropriate consultant supervision.
* This will include the assessment, monitoring and initiating treatment, with colleagues and under consultant supervision.
* Attend consultant and multidisciplinary ward rounds, and supervise relevant junior medical students who may rotate through the directorate.
* Undertake regular unsupervised ward rounds on the relevant ward to ensure patients are making satisfactory progress.
* Complete discharge summaries in a timely fashion.
* Attend clinic as part of continuing professional development.
* Research and service outcome evaluation will be the key part of this job and you will have one session for this as part of this clinical fellow post.
