Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the security, safety, cleanliness, and general maintenance of Educate U's four school buildings and surrounding site.
The caretaker plays a key role in supporting the smooth running of the school, ensuring our pupils, staff, and visitors are welcomed into a safe and well-maintained environment.
Responsibilities
* Maintain and oversee the upkeep of four school buildings and surrounding external areas.
* Work closely with the Premises Manager to support site operations and compliance.
* Carry out general maintenance, DIY, and repairs (e.g., painting, plumbing, minor carpentry).
* Undertake regular health and safety checks, recording findings appropriately.
* Ensure the school site is secure, clean, and hazard-free at all times.
* Respond promptly to emergencies or urgent maintenance issues. This might sometimes include out of hours.
* Support staff with porterage duties (e.g., moving furniture, setting up rooms, deliveries).
* Supervise and liaise with external contractors, ensuring safe working practices.
* Monitor heating, lighting, and energy use to support efficiency.
* Keep outside areas safe, tidy, and well maintained (e.g., car park, playground, pathways).
* Safely manage and store tools, cleaning products, and equipment.
* Participate in training and development as required.
Experience
* Previous experience in caretaking, maintenance, or facilities (desirable).
* Experience in a school or similar environment (desirable).
Skills and Knowledge
* Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow instructions accurately.
* Good organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
* Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
* Physical stamina to perform manual tasks and lift moderate weights as required.
