We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, and motivated Health Care Assistant to join our team. We seek someone with experience working within primary care, ideally NVQ level 3 or equivalent, to work with our existing nursing team.


Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will have a patient-facing role with duties including:

* Health screening
* ECGs
* Blood pressure monitoring
* New patient checks and NHS health checks
* Clinic assistance
* Mental health and dementia reviews
* Ordering and stock control
* Acting as a chaperone

The applicant must be willing to undertake additional training to develop clinical skills and competencies relevant to the role as they arise.

Job responsibilities

Assessment, screening, treatment services, and health education advice.

Provide general and specific health screening within agreed protocols, with referrals to a nurse or GP as necessary.

Assist in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well-being, including chronic disease reviews and private medicals (HGV, local businesses, etc.).

Provide follow-up advice for smoking cessation, diet modification, weight management, and other health promotion areas.

Perform new patient checks and NHS health checks.

Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during, and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during minor operations.

Assist in monitoring patients on anticoagulation by carrying out INR testing.

Administer vaccinations as appropriate, working within protocols and following training/competency assessments.

Assist in the review of individual patient care plans where necessary.


Pathological specimens and investigatory procedures

Undertake collection of pathological specimens, including blood samples and swabs.

Perform routine diagnostic tests such as urinalysis, blood pressure monitoring, ECG recording, and 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.


Administrative and Professional Responsibilities

Participate in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.

Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patient's computerised records.

Participate in clinical audits, practice research projects, and significant event analyses.

Implement infection control requirements.

Ensure clinical rooms are stocked as required.

Undertake cleaning, maintenance, and calibration of equipment according to practice policy.

Manage stock control, rotation, and ordering of consumables.

Manage own time, workload, and resources effectively.

Act as a chaperone when requested.

Conduct room checks to ensure compliance with CQC standards.

Maintain effective liaison with team members and other agencies, respecting confidentiality and protocols.

Contribute to team effectiveness by reflecting on activities and suggesting improvements.


Personal/Professional Development

Participate in developing and implementing a personal and professional development plan, maintaining records of own development.

Participate in training programs and maintain continued education through courses and study days.

Take responsibility for own learning and performance.


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience working as a Health Care Assistant within a GP surgery environment.


Qualifications

* NVQ level 3 or equivalent experience in primary care as a Health Care Assistant.
