Overview

Job Title: Commercial Manager

Reports To: Group MD

Location: Westhill, Aberdeen

Purpose of the Role:

The role of Commercial Manager will take overall responsibility for the company’s commercial and contractual activities. This includes leading client and supplier negotiations, developing commercial strategies, overseeing contract execution, managing risks, and driving profitability across projects. The role is central to ensuring the business meets its financial and strategic objectives while protecting commercial interests.

Relationships:

Liaise and support across all areas of the business. Contribute to the team, sharing best practice and building a “one team” culture within Texo.


Key Responsibilities

* Lead all client and supplier commercial negotiations, ensuring favourable outcomes that align with business strategy.
* Develop and implement commercial strategies to support growth, profitability, and long-term sustainability.
* Provide senior-level guidance on risk, contract structures, and commercial opportunities.
* Act as the main commercial point of contact for clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
* Oversee the review, negotiation, and execution of client and supplier contracts.
* Ensure all contracts are compliant, commercially robust, and fit for purpose.
* Manage resolution of contractual disputes, engaging with legal advisors where necessary.
* Monitor supplier and subcontractor performance against agreed KPIs.
* Support project teams with accurate commercial input to bids, tenders, and project execution.
* Drive cost control, value engineering, and margin improvement initiatives.
* Analyse market conditions, commercial risks, and business opportunities to guide decision-making.
* Lead and develop the commercial function within the business, mentoring staff and embedding best practice.
* Work collaboratively with Operations, Finance, QHSE, Legal, and Business Development teams to ensure alignment.
* Promote cross-selling opportunities across all TEXO divisions.


Qualifications and Experience

Essential

* Degree in Business, Law, Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
* Proven experience in a senior commercial/contracts management role, ideally within engineering, construction, energy, or related industries.
* Strong track record of contract negotiation, risk management, and dispute resolution.
* Experience leading commercial strategies that deliver improved profitability and client satisfaction.
* Excellent knowledge of contract law, commercial terms, and industry-standard contracts (e.g., NEC, FIDIC, LOGIC).
* Demonstrated ability to manage supplier performance, including KPI frameworks and cost controls.
* Financial acumen with experience in budgeting, cost forecasting, and margin management.
* Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills at all levels (internal and external).

Desirable

* Professional membership (e.g., RICS, CIPS, IACCM) or working towards chartership.
* Experience in business development, bid management and client relationship management.
* Knowledge of offshore energy, fabrication, construction & utilities.
* Previous experience leading or mentoring a commercial/contracts team.
* Proficiency with contract management systems and reporting tools.
