Senior Software Engineer (applied AI) - Manchester.
I’ve partnered with a well-backed applied AI company in Manchester that’s focuses on tech systems within industrial / industry-based environments. The team builds and deploys enterprise-grade platforms that combine:
Modern frontends, Python backends, and Computer Vision Models all running in the real world.
These systems are used by customers across industries such as: manufacturing, automotive, and similar industrial settings, where things like reliability, performance, and fast iteration really count.
Having been running for a number of years and achieved some solid success, they’re now looking for a Senior Engineer to join the team on a hybrid-basis from the city centre.
You’ll be working across the stack:
* JS frontends used by customers and internal teams
* Python backend services that wrap and operationalise CV models
* Deployment into cloud, edge, and customer environments
* Integration work, upgrades, and ongoing improvements in live systems
This role would really suit a senior or lead-level engineer who:
* Has around 8+ years commercial engineering experience
* Is genuinely fullstack (frontend + backend), quite broadly specialised
* Has worked with computer vision in production environments
* Enjoys owning systems rather than handing work off
* Is comfortable working directly with customers on deployments and integrations
* Thinks in terms of delivery, trade-offs, and pragmatism rather than theory (and isn’t afraid of having these difficult conversations)
* Is happy mentoring a team technically and shaping a culture
This role wouldn't be suitable for someone coming purely from a data science or research background. The focus here is shipping software, improving systems, and iterating quickly under real constraints.
You’ll have a lot of autonomy, real influence over how systems are built, and the chance to work on technically interesting problems that actually get used. There’s also an expectation that you help raise engineering quality around you, support other engineers, and contribute to a strong, practical engineering culture.
