Base Location is flexible within the South Wales and Hereford Area
Regular travel throughout these areas, as well as to the Head Office in Cardiff, will be required. The role also includes deputising for the Head of Operational Safety when necessary and mentoring of H&S advisors and technician post holders.
Lead and support assigned business areas to effectively manage health, safety and wellbeing to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and internal standards, whilst encouraging continuous improvement. Provision of risk management and specialist health, safety and wellbeing advice for line managers and employees within allocated operational business and geographical areas. Provide support on specific operational health and safety issues.
Act as trusted advisor to Heads of Service and taking the lead on specific health and safety risks and project work. Directing colleagues to undertake actions linked to specific issues and projects. Lead initiatives to improve health and safety performance, including major risk reviews, safety culture programmes, and the coordination of Health & Safety Champions. Provide key specialist H&S advice and support the health safety and wellbeing improvement forums and consultation groups.
Providing safety information and support for the selection, and appointment of operational contractors. Developing and carrying out health and safety site and system audits and inspections with internal and external partners, e.g., to support the annual major risk review, as part of contractor tender processes.
Developing and reviewing diverse technical company risk assessments, COSHH assessments and safe working procedures. Take a lead role in process safety management advice, particularly at high-risk sites such as COMAH and Advanced Anaerobic Digestion facilities.
Acting as contract manager for health and safety-related services, including occupational health provision, DSE equipment, and H&S software systems. Oversee budgets for specific projects.
Lead and support the development and delivery of specified health, safety and wellbeing policies, procedures and improvement activities. This includes the development, review and delivery of health and safety training sessions and workshops. Work with internal and external providers to develop training courses and materials.
Provide expert support in investigating significant health and safety incidents, ensuring timely production of reports, identification of root causes, implementation of business improvements, and compliance with reporting obligations to enforcement authorities within required deadlines.
Leading and delivering health and safety communications and specific health and safety awareness events and activities, e.g., Health and Safety campaigns, STEP and TRACA programmes Developing health and safety bulletins, alerts and toolbox talks and where necessary H&S films.
Development and use of bespoke health and safety software systems. Manage and develop health and safety performance reporting systems and produce business reports.
Represent the organisation in interactions with regulators, contractors, and other external stakeholders, fostering positive relationships and promoting the health and safety profession. Support Water UK specialist H&S groups.

Qualified to NEBOSH level 6 Diploma or equivalent.
Full UK driver’s licence with the ability to travel as the job requires.
NEBOSH Process Safety Certificate (essential for the role, training to obtain this will be arranged if the candidate does not already have this qualification).
Experience providing effective health, safety and wellbeing advisory service within a technical discipline, e.g., Proven experience of delivering projects to completion in a timely and accurate manner, to a set budget.
Skllied in building relationships and demonstrable skill negotiating and influencing both internally and externally and ability to show interpersonal sensitivity.
IT literate – familiar with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
Location is flexible within the South Wales and Hereford area.
