This role is hybrid, requiring travel to client sites across the Midlands and occasional meetings at our headquarters in Manchester.
The role:
As a Commercial Banking Manager, you will have the opportunity to build, manage, and develop a portfolio of lending clients. Represent The Co-operative Bank by delivering excellent customer service and fostering strong relationships.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Develop strong links within the local business community to promote our values, services, and products, building a robust customer portfolio.
2. Maintain and nurture relationships within your assigned portfolio to ensure high satisfaction and maximize business returns, regularly reviewing progress against standards and targets.
3. Deeply understand your customers’ portfolios and product options to meet current and future business needs, and develop tailored services and solutions to enhance satisfaction and increase returns.
4. Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and internal policies, staying informed about industry changes and competitor offerings.
5. Lead by example in accordance with the Bank’s cultural transformation, risk management framework, and ethical policies.
6. Possess high-level credit skills, managing credit applications from initial enquiry through to deal completion, including negotiations and sanction conditions.
7. Drive continuous improvement in operational policies and procedures, ensuring best practices are adopted and aligned with overall standards.
8. Represent the Bank and Corporate Banking at internal and external events, serving as a role model for the team.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience:
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across diverse audiences.
* Strong credit expertise in a commercial lending environment.
* Experience in lending across various sectors, with significant experience in loans between £5m and £15m.
* Proven ability to manage complex UK commercial lending portfolios and secure larger lending opportunities.
* Teamwork orientation and leadership skills.
* Decisiveness and risk management capabilities.
* Confidence in selling and marketing banking products.
* Comfort with approaching clients and traveling to customer locations as needed.
* Experience in line management and mentoring colleagues.
