Overview
The Environment Agency is looking for an experienced investigator to join our National Investigations Team as a Senior Environmental Crime Officer. We are seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated individual with a strong investigative background and good communication skills. You will work alongside Senior Investigation Managers and our Major Incident Room to lead investigations into the most serious and complex environmental crimes, coordinating and overseeing all aspects of investigations from lines of enquiry to casefile preparation and prosecution.
Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate investigations into serious environmental crimes, including identifying lines of enquiry, reviewing intelligence, raising and allocating actions, coordinating evidence gathering and interviews, and preparing case files for prosecution.
* Drive complex investigations often involving Organised Crime Groups, illegal waste exports and large-scale fraud.
* Develop and lead investigative teams, drive progression of investigations, and contribute to team development.
* Collaborate with Partnership Organisations and maintain effective communication with stakeholders.
* Respond to incidents as part of the role, including providing business continuity support during incidents (may attract additional payment and training).
Experience and qualifications
* High level of attention to detail, hard-working and self-motivated with a strong investigative background.
* In-depth knowledge of investigative legislation such as PACE and CPIA; excellent verbal and written communication; basic IT competence (Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams).
* Knowledge of environmental crime and experience leading serious criminal investigations; familiarity with Major Incident Rooms is desirable.
* Background in leadership, initiative-taking, and building/developing investigation teams.
* Successful completion of both SC and NPPV2 Vetting processes within a 6-month probationary period.
* Full driving licence required.
Role details
* Hybrid working role (home and Environment Agency Office) with frequent travel for meetings and operational duties.
* Responding to incidents is a central part of the role; incident role and availability for incident response is expected.
