Mental Health Liaison Service Support, Time and Recovery Worker

We are looking for a full‑time Mental Health Liaison Service Support, Time and Recovery Worker to join our team at the Dept of Psychological Medicine.

The Mental Health Liaison Service provides comprehensive mental health assessments, brief interventions, care planning and signposting/referral for patients presenting to A&E or admitted to hospital. The team collaborates with community services to meet the needs of individuals with mental health difficulties.

Common presentations include suicidal ideation, deliberate self‑harm, depression, dementia, alcohol misuse and psychosis. Work is fast‑paced and diverse, and support workers play a pivotal role.

We have recently opened a bespoke emergency department streaming area, a safe therapeutic space for patients awaiting assessment. As a support, time and recovery worker you will be integral to this initiative.

The service operates 24 hours, 7 days a week. The post holder must be able to work unsocial hours, including night shifts and weekends, on a pro‑rated basis.


Main duties

• Work as part of the multidisciplinary team within the emergency department and hospital wards.

• Make first contact with patients referred from the wards and support those awaiting assessment in the streaming area.

• Provide emotional support and psychosocial interventions through care plans.

• Assist qualified practitioners in patient assessment.

• Liaise with a variety of community services.


Qualifications

* NVQ level 3 in mental health/learning disabilities or equivalent.


Experience

* Experience working with people with mental health difficulties and/or learning disability.
* Experience delivering presentations and developing groupwork materials.
* Awareness of local services and community provision.
* Experience with electronic clinical record systems.


Knowledge

* Understanding of mental health or learning disability issues.
* Standard IT skills (Microsoft Office).
* Knowledge of benefit & employment services.
* Understanding of trauma‑informed approach.

* Evidence of interpersonal skills and ability to form therapeutic relationships.
* Ability to work in a demanding environment.
* Motivational ability.
