Maintenance Engineer - Food Production
Location: Witham, Essex
Job Type: Permanent | Full Time (40 hours/week)

About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering effective planned and reactive maintenance across a fast-paced production facility. This role requires both mechanical and electrical fault-finding abilities, as well as the flexibility to assist with general site maintenance and support process improvements.
This is a hands-on role ideal for someone with strong engineering skills, preferably with experience in food or FMCG environments.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned, preventive, and predictive maintenance on production and factory equipment.
* Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and faults, diagnosing and resolving technical issues.
* Complete raised maintenance requests within agreed timeframes.
* Maintain accurate documentation and update maintenance logs and reports as required.
* Support the continuous improvement of maintenance processes and engineering standards.
* Ensure all work complies with health and safety policies and regulatory requirements.
* Assist with building maintenance, workshop organisation, and general upkeep of engineering areas.
* Communicate effectively with production and operational teams to assess needs and prioritise tasks.
* Participate in knowledge-sharing and the training of apprentices or junior team members.
* Be willing to work across multiple sites when required.
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications and Training (Desirable)
* Mechanical or Electrical Maintenance Certification/Diploma
* Time-served Maintenance Engineer
* A-Level education or equivalent
Experience and Knowledge
* Previous experience in a food manufacturing or similar production environment
* Strong understanding of factory processes, CCPs, and compliance
* Competency in both mechanical and basic electrical maintenance
* Familiar with PPM systems, fault diagnostics, and CMMS usage
* Welding/metal fabrication skills and general building works experience
* Experience working to high safety and quality standards

* Must hold a full UK driving licence
