About the team/role
Join Us as a Senior Enterprise Systems Administrator Are you ready to help shape the digital backbone of Gloucestershire County Council? We’re looking for a dynamic and forward-thinking Senior Enterprise Systems Administrator to join our Digital & ICT team. This is more than just a technical role — it’s a chance to influence how we deliver secure, resilient, and innovative services to the council. You’ll be leading a team that demands deep expertise in hybrid cloud infrastructure, automation, and enterprise-scale systems administration. What you’ll be doing:
9. Leading a small team of Enterprise Systems Administrators, providing mentorship and technical direction.
10. Managing and maintaining our hybrid infrastructure, including Active Directory/Entra, Exchange (on-prem and online), and M365 services.
11. Driving forward our use of modern technologies such as Entra ID and Intune.
12. Overseeing patch management, Windows server administration, and critical service monitoring — ensuring our systems are secure, compliant, and always available.
13. Playing a key role in change, incident, and problem management, including CAB participation and root cause analysis.
14. Supporting enterprise-wide projects, advising on infrastructure impacts, and leading technical delivery where needed.
Why join us? You’ll be part of a collaborative, forward-looking team that’s embracing modern tools and practices. From conditional access policies in Azure to automation with PowerShell, we’re not just keeping the lights on — we’re building the future of public sector IT.
About you
What we’re looking for:
15. A seasoned systems administrator with hands-on experience across Microsoft enterprise technologies.
16. Someone who thrives in a hybrid environment — equally comfortable with on-prem infrastructure and cloud-native services.
17. A confident communicator who can translate technical complexity into plain English and influence decisions at all levels.
18. A proactive problem-solver who brings structure, clarity, and calm to high-pressure situations.
19. A team player who’s passionate about mentoring others and continuously improving how we work.
About Us
For all your hard work, you will receive the following;
20. Flexible and agile working opportunities
21. 25.5 days annual leave rising to 30.5 days after 5 years continuous service
22. Plus, an option to purchase 10 days of additional leave per year (pro-rata for part-time staff)
23. Family friendly employer offering benefits to help support you and your family
24. Career development and qualification opportunities
25. Supportive and positive working environment with regular, robust supervision
26. Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS)
27. Access to our Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) that provides free, confidential, counselling and advice for employees, available 24 hours a day, online and by telephone.
28. An in-house Occupational Health service
29. Employee discount scheme
30. Cycle to Work scheme
31. Links to employee networks such as Prism (LGBT+) network and the Young Employees Network. Gloucestershire Salary Sacrifice Green Car Scheme (T&C's apply)
