Responsibilities
* Oversee and work as part of the catering team to prepare, cook and serve food to a high standard for patients, visitors and staff, ensuring food is safely produced following department food safety policies, NHS food standards and food safety legislation. Support and advise chefs, catering team leaders, food service assistants, mentor trainees and liaise with dietetics and SALT.
* Assist the Head Chef and Retail Manager to support the delivery of high quality, cost‑effective hospitality, providing leadership and support to the Catering Team daily, encouraging and supporting all members.
* Supervise day‑to‑day operations of the department, liaising with Team Leaders to ensure smooth running.
* Represent the department at user meetings and suggest ideas for improvement.
* Assist Environmental Health Officers in the absence of the Head Chef.
* Take responsibility for the workload of a specific section of the kitchen or shift when required.
* Maintain staff attendance records, monitor sickness/absence, holidays and check timesheets with the Head Chef, and complete return‑to‑work interviews and annual appraisals.
* Plan production and assist with rostering within the kitchen to ensure all roles are covered and staff are given the opportunity to work in all areas of the department.
