The Cheshire West and Chester Council Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) department has recently undergone a huge transformation and is looking for a Junior Data Engineer to support the implementation of data flows and connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems.

Cheshire West and Chester Council's Digital, Data and Technology (DDAT) department is looking to recruit an experienced and motivated Junior Data Engineer to support the implementation of data flows and connect operational systems, data for analytics and business intelligence (BI) systems. There will be a focus on re-engineering manual data flows to enable scaling and repeatable use of data and automate core business intelligence reports, particularly to support statutory returns. The Junior Data Engineer will support other Data Engineers in building accessible data for on-going analysis by Data Scientist and Business Analysts. This is an exciting opportunity to join a newly created and progressive team with big ambitions for the future. This role is a Grade, £, - £, (as of April pay band figures).
Responsibilities include:
1. Reviewing data quality and integrity, ensuring data is available consistently, to agreed quality standards and in a timely manner throughout the organisation.
2. Contributing to designing efficient data pipelines and flows, without data loss and maintaining data quality, to meet both individual service and organisational wide requirements as set out in the agreed data model for the Council
3. Collaborating with data science and analytics teams, to support them to ensure that they have access to the right datasets, appropriately cleansed and formatted, enabling them to derive valuable council insight
4. Contributing to scaling data solutions, ensuring these continue to meet increasing demands for data by reviewing storage requirements, optimising data flows and integrating new technologies
5. Contributing to data security and compliance, working closely with data engineering manager, other data engineers, data ethics and the security architect to safeguard the Council’s data assets and ensuring regulatory
The ideal candidate will NVQ Level or equivalent along with experience in computing, ideally with data engineering specialism, some experience of data engineering, knowledge of industry standard data warehousing tools and platforms and an awareness of data encryption, masking, and compliance standards. They should also have an understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, normalisation, and denormalisation and have proficiency in languages commonly used in data engineering, such as python, Java, Scala, and SQL.
