South East Scotland Cancer Research Network (SESCRN)

SENIOR RESEARCH DATA MANAGER (CLINICAL TRIALS)

Agenda for Change Band 6

37.0 hours per week

Salary: £41,608 - £50,702

Fixed Term – 2 years

Base: Edinburgh Cancer Centre, Western General Hospital

INTERNAL CANDIDATES ONLY – INTERVIEWS WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY 08 DECEMBER 2025 AT WESTERN GENERAL HOSPITAL

The Edinburgh Cancer Centre is a participating centre of the Scottish Cancer Research Network (SCRN). SCRN aims to increase patient participation in cancer clinical trials throughout Scotland. The South East Scotland Cancer Research Network (SESCRN) supports the provision of cancer clinical trials in a geographic area comprising the Health Board areas of NHS Lothian, NHS Fife, NHS Borders and NHS Dumfries and Galloway.

We are now seeking to employ a full-time Senior Research Data Manager. The post-holder will work alongside and lead an existing team of data management staff, and work alongside medical, nursing and support services colleagues to facilitate the collection of high-quality data in the trials and ensuring that protocol requirements and recognised standards (such as ICH GCP) are continually met. The post-holder will have oversight of recording clinical data in case report forms (both paper and electronic) and will liaise closely with sponsors and co-ordinating centres to ensure that all aspects of clinical trials meet regulatory guidelines.

Educated to degree level or with relevant experience, you should have strong analytical and reporting skills and be able to focus on detail. Applicants should be able to demonstrate experience working in a clinical trial environment, preferably in an oncology setting, as well as experience of managing a team. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential for the development of professional relationships with medical, nursing, pharmacy and other staff groups involved in the support of clinical trials, and the post-holder must be able to demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in the ever-changing and progressive working environment of cancer research.

Informal discussions or visits are recommended and if you would like to discuss the post in more detail, please contact Stuart Leslie, Assistant Service Manager on 0131 537 3253 or stuart.leslie@nhs.scot

To work in the United Kingdom, there is a legal requirement for an individual to demonstrate that they have the relevant permission to work in the country. This permission is, without exception, granted by the UK Visa and Immigrations Service.

As part of the pre-employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. It can be evidenced through a number of routes including specific types of visa as well as EU settled and pre-settled status. To find out more about these routes of permission, please refer to the GOV.UK website here .

For specific types of post, if you do not have the necessary eligibility to work in the UK, it might be possible (though not guaranteed) to secure sponsorship via a UK Skilled Worker/Health & Care Worker Visa. However, this is only possible if the employer is a licenced Sponsor, and if the post does not fall below the current minimum salary threshold or ‘going rate’. Further information on these criteria can be found here .

It is ESSENTIAL that you have checked that you either already have an appropriate right to work in the UK or that the post would be eligible to be sponsored BEFORE submitting your application form.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. If there is any change to what is currently required, this will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team. For more details on these changes please visit: Disclosure Scotland Changes .
