About the Role

We are seeking a Sales professional to develop and deliver a clear business strategy across a defined geographic, sector and product portfolio – in this case, France, Italy and Malta. The role is focused on achieving annual sales targets by growing and maintaining relationships with existing customers while proactively identifying and developing new business opportunities. This includes responding to customer needs and presenting tailored proposals that showcase the value of OUP Academic content.

You will create, implement and regularly update a territory business plan to support UK sales objectives, while presenting and promoting OUP Academic books and journals, primarily in digital formats, to institutional customers. Working closely with customers using a consultative sales approach, you will build strong relationships, maximise engagement with OUP products, and manage a robust pipeline of opportunities. The role also involves tracking and reporting sales activity, coordinating research into new prospects, and identifying areas for sustainable growth across the portfolio.

This role requires close collaboration with internal teams across OUP to ensure feedback from the market informs sales activity, budgeting and product development. You will contribute to annual revenue budgeting, manage territory overheads, and build a strong understanding of OUP’s products, formats and business models, and through ongoing customer engagement and attendance at key conferences and events, you will ensure OUP remains market‑focused.

Travel requirements for this role are moderate and planned around key business needs. This typically includes attendance at two core international conferences each year with customer meetings arranged locally to maximise the value of each trip. In addition, there may be two to three further regional trips annually. Travel activity is generally concentrated in May/June and again in October/November, aligning with peak customer engagement and purchasing cycles, with minimal travel over the summer period.

We operate a hybrid working policy that requires a minimum of 2 days per week in the Oxford office when not travelling.

About You

1. Previous experience of sales or marketing.
2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Highly skilled in using software packages such as Excel, with a proven aptitude to learn and work with new systems.
4. Ability to effectively manage a high volume, complex workload through prioritisation of tasks in line with departmental objectives.
5. Fluency in French.
6. Fluency in Italian is desirable.
