Welfare Officer
Location: Sydenham
Department: Social Work and Welfare
Tenure/Hours: 18 or 36 hours per week / part-time or full-time available
Salary: £31,956-£33,100 per annum (pro-rata if part-time)
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate welfare officer to join our multi-disciplinary team. This role focuses on upholding patients’ financial rights and supporting their economic wellbeing within palliative care. You will build trusted relationships with individuals using our services and identify unmet financial needs to provide high-quality welfare benefits advice to maximise income, along with guidance on related social welfare issues.
Responsibilities
* Develop trusted relationships with individuals using our services.
* Identify unmet financial needs and provide welfare benefits advice to maximise income.
* Offer guidance on a range of related social welfare issues.
* Advocate for patients with statutory and non-statutory agencies to maximise income and entitlements.
* Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support economic wellbeing of patients and families.
About You / Qualifications
* Substantial experience in a social welfare or related setting.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage complex financial situations.
* A strong understanding of the financial impact of long-term illness and palliative care on individuals and families.
* In-depth knowledge of welfare rights and entitlements in the UK for disabled individuals and their carers.
* Confidence in working with a range of statutory and non-statutory agencies to advocate for and maximise patients’ income.
* Flexible, creative and proactive approach, with a commitment to continuous learning and development, both individually and as part of a team.
