Job Description
The Systems Engineering department is responsible for all the electrical/electronic and control systems on the race car, including all sensors and their logged telemetry data. The engineers within Data Processing team are responsible for the development of software applications that reliably provide additional high-quality data that is vital for the analysis of vehicle performance.
Electronics, Software & Controls Industrial Placement - Data Processing
In this factory-based role you will contribute to the development of bespoke software applications that are used to analyse car telemetry data in real time during race events. With the amounts of data being logged in F1 ever increasing, this is an exciting time to join us and have a genuine impact to the performance of the team as we continue to fight in the championship. This role is an exciting opportunity early in your career for you to both gain some experience in a highly competitive environment, and to leave your mark on the future of Williams F1 team. You will leave your placement year with a significant amount of experience in software development and data processing that you can be proud of as you progress into your career.
Shape the Future
* Support live telemetry operations from the Remote Ops Room.
* Monitor and run data processing software during race events.
* React swiftly to sensor or data issues in high-pressure scenarios.
* Identify opportunities for automation and process improvement.
* Collaborate with other departments to define data requirements.
* Develop software engineering skills with guidance from the team.
Make Real Impact
* Build bespoke software tools that directly support race performance.
* Contribute to real-time data analysis during live track sessions.
* Help ensure the reliability of applications used by the race team.
* Influence decision-making through high-quality data insights.
* Communicate effectively to share findings and improvements.
Find Your Place
* Strong foundation in programming or software engineering.
* Proficient in MATLAB and familiar with GIT source control.
* Interest in data analysis and signal processing.
* Able to debug software under time-sensitive conditions.
* Understanding of object-oriented programming and GUI design (desirable).
* Experience with Python, C#, SQL, or control systems (desirable).
* Detail-oriented and proactive in building robust applications.
