Housing Support Coach – Young People Homelessness

Employer: Kevin Cheston Consulting

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: £23,848 a year

Location: Stoke on Trent

Hours per week: 37.5

Provide support and advice to young people who have experienced homelessness and other forms of social exclusion. Work with the team to manage the day‑to‑day running of the young persons 24/7 supported accommodation scheme and serve as the first point of contact for customers and visitors.


Key Responsibilities

* Support customers to move into the service, completing detailed sign‑ups to ensure young people understand their rights and responsibilities and those of Concrete.
* Cover all reception tasks – phone, post and reception enquiries.
* Assist customers with rent and service charge payments, including benefit claims where necessary.
* Maintain safety and security of young people and the building by supervising entry/exit and carrying out regular health and safety checks.
* Arrange and, where appropriate, accompany appointments for customers (e.g., GP or DWP) and advise on housing, health, welfare benefit claims and other issues.
* Work with the local community and respond to neighbourhood concerns or queries when needed.
* Support the service’s income by minimising void loss and arrears – reporting, monitoring and following up on maintenance jobs until completion; prepare void rooms for re‑let and keep the service clean and tidy.
* Maintain high standard of records, keeping all financial and admin systems up to date.


Qualifications & Experience

* GCSE level or equivalent in maths and English.
* Some experience dealing directly with the public and/or clients in a busy service environment.
* Experience handling complex and difficult behaviours in young people facing multiple disadvantages, or willingness to develop these skills.
* Excellent communication and administrative skills.
* Empathy for those without a home; a non‑judgemental, empowering approach.
* Flexible and adaptable – able to work a rota that includes early mornings, afternoons and evenings.
* Valid DBS check.
* Full UK driving licence; able to use own vehicle for work purposes.
