RPS is actively seeking a dynamic and organised Sample Reception Officer to join our Sample Reception team providing vital support to our esteemed Laboratory team located in Bedford. This is a full time, permanent position working a later shift of 2pm -10pm.

As part of the Sample Reception team, you will be responsible for overseeing incoming work, reviewing and booking in samples to ensure correct details are recorded and client requirements are understood.

RPS Laboratories is a team of Analysts, Chemists, and Technicians that operate from purpose-built laboratory facilities which have a long history of providing expert advice and analytical solutions to the agrochemical sector. Our laboratories enjoy an international reputation for solving complex and novel analytical problems in a wide variety of food, feed, and forage crops.
• Our Bedford laboratory was one of the first laboratories in the UK to gain UKAS accreditation for the analysis of PFAS chemicals following the monitoring required at the Buncefield oil terminal.
About You:
As a key member of the Laboratories business, your role as a Sample Reception Officer is critical to helping us conduct investigations and formulate effective solutions to help our clients comply with international quality standards, maximum residue limits (MRLs), environmental regulations, and much more.
By joining us you will collaborate with our clients, to design a tailored analytical programme to meet their complex regulatory needs. Leveraging our state-of-the-art instrumentation. You will be influential in providing analytical support during the remediation and clean-up project and subsequent routine monitoring.
Your Responsibilities:
Receiving and unpacking deliveries of samples throughout the day.
Responsible for logging samples into LIMS accurately.
Record receiving temperatures of samples and check samples for deviations.
Ensure all work requests are accompanied by correct paperwork (chain of custody against quote) and purchase order number.
Ensure samples are stored in the correct locations in a timely manner.
Review storage space usage and requirements for upcoming work.
Liaise with Project Coordination Team to ensure timely disposal of samples.
Follow procedures to perform basic sample preparation and determination.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Excellent interpersonal skills and a demonstrable ability to effectively communicate at various levels within organisations.
An interest in science, preferably with qualifications related to the science field.
Experience of working in a fast-paced environment would be desirable.
Good attention to detail and ability to cope under pressure.
Ability to work with minimal supervision independently as well as part of a team.
Previous experience of working in a laboratory setting would be advantageous.
Experience of working with a LIMS software programme would be highly desirable.
