Overview

Position: PO5 on a permanent, full-time basis with hybrid working. Salary: £54,360 pa rising to £57,495 pa incl. LW, plus £2,500 Market Supplement. Location: Lambeth, South London. Closing date: 28th September 2025 at midnight.

Role summary: Advanced Practitioner within the Family Support and Child Protection Service (FSCP) in Children Social Care. You will support the Team Manager of a busy team and hold a reduced caseload, providing guidance, supervision and mentoring to staff, and contributing to high standards of professional social work practice.


Responsibilities

* Support the Team Manager of a 6-member social care team (including one ASYE) with day-to-day management tasks and performance under supervision.
* Provide professional, reflective supervision and support to staff, including induction of new staff, newly qualified social workers and students.
* Mentor and model high standards of practice; jointly work with less experienced social workers and supervise their cases as applicable.
* Offer guidance on complex/high-risk cases, ensuring best outcomes for children and families.
* Be flexible to work some duties outside normal hours and participate in cross-department and cross-organisational groups and task teams as required.
* Contribute to the training and development of the team and participate in monthly supervision with the Team Manager.


About You

We are looking for a compassionate, resilient, and experienced individual who has worked with children, young people, and their families in challenging circumstances. The ideal candidate will have:

* Deep understanding of child development and the impact of trauma, neglect and abuse.
* Proficiency in child protection legislation and statutory guidance (e.g., Children Act 1989 and 2004).
* Ability to build trust and rapport with children, young people and parents; promote openness and honest dialogue.
* Resilience to work in a fast-paced environment with quick turnaround of work.
* Creative problem-solving skills to find innovative solutions for challenging situations and outcomes for children and families.
* Experience guiding and supervising less experienced colleagues and supporting their development.
* Drive to improve practice and performance and model best practice.
* Commitment to ongoing professional development and staying up to date with latest research, policies and best practices in children’s services.
